Keith doing big things once again, winning another competition. He got ride of the month on V6P after many years of posting and lurking. Congrats brother, you're doing it right. ;)

How to avoid "Driveway Ownage"
Some of you might remember this video taken a while back by none other then Spunkyfresh member Kevin Akahoshi after he helped me install my Ksport coilovers.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRK8sV1wuTM
A couple years later and I still have never raised the ride height on the car. In fact I even lowered the rear a couple days after that video. I recently had to park my car in a garage that had a steep driveway. It was more like a curb that's slightly rounded then an actual driveway. Since my front lip has roughly 1.5 inches of clearance at its lowest point the bumper needed to come off before I could attempt driving up the driveway. The frame of my car sits 1.5-2 inches off the ground as well so the assistance of 2x4's would be needed, but since I didn't have enough 2x4's a few bricks did the trick :). The pics can be viewed down below. Keeping it "Spunkyfresh" on the daily.

Los Angeles Autoshow 2010
The LA Autoshow is an event which, in my opinion, should be visited in moderation. I feel this way, because if one were to visit the Autoshow every year, it would seem like you were revisiting the same thing over and over again. The last visit for me was way back when I was in junior high, so making it out to this year's show was definite refresher. I must say that I was quite impressed with what the auto companies chose for their displays. They have come a long way from what I could last recall. Companies such as Lexus and Honda featured track ready setups for platforms such as the all new CR-Z and even a GS430 right in middle of their showcase. Even though 95% of the people who purchase these cars would never do such a thing to their own vehicle, it was nice to inform the public of the true potential of these machines. Toyota won my vote though, debuting a stretched out Sienna known as "The Swagger Wagon".

Quality Control
Guess who's back and packing some heat?! Our very own member Ken recently mounted his Brand New wheels and there was no question that we had to shoot his car immediately after he torqued down his last lugnut.
Ken's Civic Si has been treated with only the finest parts since the day it rolled off the dealership lot. This sporty saloon will get you from point A to point B in style and fairly quickly too. Some things to notice are his Mugen window visors, HFP suspension and now the 18" Mugen GP's accompanied with Mugen lugnuts. As you can see, no shortcuts were taken here and Ken plans to further his parts list with more OEM goodness.

The Revival
Finally. Things are falling into place.
Greetings to all who are just tuning in, and welcome to the Spunkyfresh lifestyle. As we can see in the older posts, Mr. Akahoshi has been doing a fantastic job updating what's been happening and it's only going to get better from here on out. Major props to him for that and Kudos to expanding this blog to his affiliates.
What to expect.
Expect no expectations. We know that people like to associate Spunkyfresh directly with the automotive culture but I'd like to make it known to all that it goes way beyond that. Bicycling, fashion, and photography are just some of the other passions which we enjoy. Updates will be posted very soon so bare with us in the meantime.
Thanks for tuning in, and remember to keep it fresh.

The Title
I haven't updated my blog in quite a while, so here goes...
In the past few weeks (October 25th) I finally staked my claim. Sprinna is officially my girlfriend! So many events led up to the actual event, it was a great great weekend, a few weeks ago.
For starters, I dropped off my OEM sides and rear for paint, and my front for repair, so I was excited to be finally completing my lip kit. I dropped it off at my painter on that Saturday and went from his place to Mitsuwa Japanese market. Man, I love that place.
This was the first time that Sprinna had been to Mitsuwa before so it was definitely a cool experience. She was kind of surprised that it wasn't more like 99 Ranch Market. After we walked around and found the candy aisle, we bought some Hi-Chews and some drinks like Calpico and Aloe. Afterwards, I treated her to some legit Japanese food. We both got some tonkatsu curry. Shit was delicious! I wish I had brought my camera to take some pictures of it. Honestly, it made me appreciate an affordable and tasty Japanese meal. After that, we headed down the 55S towards the coast, and hopped on PCH.
From there I drove southbound until we hit Laguna Beach. There's this neat spot in Laguna Beach that overlooks a lot of the city and you can see the ocean. The only problem is that it's in the middle of a random neighborhood so I didn't quite remember how to get there. We ended up getting lost in this neighborhood but it was cool because we just spent time looking at all the awesome houses in that area. Ironically however, we became un-lost when I found the street I was looking for. After that we went on a short hike to some benches that overlooked the ocean. It was a nice way to spend some time with her.
We got kind of cold so we left and went back to my house. When we got there, I thought it would be cool to watch Planet Earth and eat popcorn. She agreed. My mom came home for like 30 minutes and left (mind you it's midnight) so it was just the two of us. I told her after an episode though that we needed to go to bed since it was so late, and since we had to get up early in the morning.
The morning came, and man was it FUCKING EARLY. I got up, and woke her up, and we headed out of my house by 6:00 AM. Hopped on the 241, then the 133, then the 405, then the 110, and took that all the way until the freeway ended. Where my car took me was a place known as Sunken City in San Pedro. We slid under the fence that separates the roadway from the ruins, and we walked to watch the sun rise. At the ruins there is a lot of graffiti and broken stuff, and this was also a really cool thing for her to see. We walked around a little bit and I walked her to the top of a mound with a piece of asphalt on it, and we stood there looking at the ocean. Pelicans flew by, the waves were crashing lightly, the sun was coming up, and the fog horns in the distance were soothing. Nobody else would bear witness to out time at Sunken City that day, which was odd because usually there's some fucked up hobo knocked the fuck out under a rug or something there. At the top of that mound, I held her hands tight and asked her to be my girlfriend... IN CHINESE! Not just in Chinese, in Cantonese! It sounded so awkward haha. "Nay seung mmm seung dzwo ngo gol luy pung yao." Chinese for AWESOME. She laughed REALLY HARD because she had trouble understanding, so I said it in Mandarin. "Ni yao bu yao shi wo de nu pung yao." That she understood perfectly clear and she said yes!
We left after shooting some SIQQQQ photos and got breakfast at a nearby diner. From there we drove home and knocked out. It was a great weekend and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

I have eaten my words
Alright, so I have a few denim head friends that are always telling me how much BETTER their denim is compared to my 50 dollar Levi No.511 jeans. They tell me about these little journeys they go through in order to get the fade they want from their jeans. My friends will go a year without washing their jeans once. Pretty nasty right?
Well. I told them all about how I was against it for the longest time. On last Sunday however, I had to eat my own words. I tried on a pair, and I was like wow these feel nice. THEY'RE STIFF AS FUCK. I feel like I have cardboard around my legs and it feels nice.
The story behind this is that my room mate Dennis had bought these jeans online and they were just too slim for him. They are VERY skinny mind you, but I'm a little slimmer than he is so they fit me better. He was going to return them and just save himself the trouble, but then he told me to try them on before he sent them back. So I did, thinking very carefully about what I was doing. They fit and, according to Dennis, I'll fit them perfectly once they've stretched out a little bit.
They're a size 29 waist (yeah I know) and a 34 length. Since Sunday (6/21/09) I've been wearing them frequently and they have stretched out around my waist a little and have started forming some nice stacks.

Stay tuned...

Fuddrucker Fridays!
So it's been FOREVER since I've updated this spot. A lot of things have happened, and damn are they intense. Jeremy and I lost our jobs. The QQ is strong with this one. That hasn't stopped us from accomplishing our dreams. We're both trying to become employed again so we can "pimp ze auto"...s.
Dom hosted another Fuddrucker Fridays meet and it was really chill. There weren't any HXC ricers that showed up (fuck you SRT4 guy), there were no verbal assaults, and no physical discrepancies that came from the meet. Even the police rolled by a few times but they never stopped or second guessed the gathering. That's what permission does for you! Ha!
Here are a few sample pictures. More can be found on my Flickr account.

It's gonna happen today
Waking up in like four hours to go to my cousin's pad and start wrenching on the exhaust. Hopefully we don't hit any snags and everything goes smoothly!
I want this to be done as fast as possible. I suspect we'll probably end up taking the whole day but who knows, if things go well I could be done early!

Exhuast Update
Exhaust should be on in T minus one week. I requested the day off and I got it off! Talked to my cousin, and we are go go go. Should be on by the afternoon or night and I will be posting pictures when it is done. I'm pretty stoked!

Spoke too soon
Just when I said Keith hadn't thought of anything for his car, he texts me telling me with what's going down. Aiya! I spoke too soon.
He's looking for a better side of sideskirts to help the Wings West front lip look better, along with looking into a rear window visor, and possibly some new foglights, and wheels! So intense.
Keith's CG gets an A+ from me.

Gas. Break. DIP!
Awwwwwwwww snap! What's new with Spunkyfresh? A few things to be honest with you. JerBEAR finally got his car back after some well deserved and needed R&R. JerBEAR got some new axles (Innovative baby!), some new tie rods, ASR subframe + rear swaybar, Falken Azenis, and just got his car aligned. Let me be the first to say, that the combination with his motor mounts makes his car feel like a completely new car. I noticed a huge difference. The car looks amazing. And if that wasn't enough, he (and myself) picked up some new HIDs! The ones we got before started turning weird colors and were flickering a lot... No bueno.
Keith got his new lip running, and is just keeping his car clean. I haven't heard about any new plans for him but knowing Keith, he'll keep things Spunkyfresh and change shit up sooner or later. He's innovative and experimental.
So what about me? I've got some plans too. Right now I'm in the process of fabbing up my own custom exhaust (yes FABBING IT UP!).
So far I've got an A'pexi Flex pipe, about 58" of 60mm piping, a 60mm two bolt flange, a Trust 60mm two bolt gasket, hangers, and a truck exhaust tip (2.5" inlet/4" outlet, 22" in length). This shit will be legit, no mufflers, and all with flanges. No more ghetto exhaust weld jobs.
Picture time!

And here are the HIDs

I'm thinking it should be on in a couple weeks. Keep your eyes (or your ears) peeled for my exhaust, it's teh_sex. I won't be putting my HIDs in until I get a new set of headlights. Seeing that my current headlights are turning green, along with not fitting quite correctly, I think a new set is in order. I'll be putting OEM headlights in (blackhoused) for the best fitment and for the highest quality. No more "eBay Special" headlights going on.
In other news, I'm going to try and get a Spunkyfresh T-shirt made (purple and teal) and if they come out well, I'll get a few more. Stay tuned.
Keep it Spunkyfresh. Always fresh. No preservatives.

Changing Pace
Switching gears. This time round, it's not always about cars. Life is too short to really accomplish every single task you set out to do. It's the truth. No matter how many deadlines you claim to have made, how many orders you've filled, or how many goals you've achieved in your lifetime... There will always be some that you will never be met. My point is that everyone is so concerned with getting to the end, that they forget the entire journey. And what do you have to show for it? Suddenly things start to appear differently than when you began your journey. For whatever reason... I had a real sad, but refreshing, re-realization today.
A man walks into Circuit. He is asking me about wall mounts, and I'm just trying to do my job. I'm explaining to him which one would be of higher construction, what would hold his television best, and why. I offered to grab the box for him, and he accepted, but he then was saying how his arms hurt and he couldn't lift the mount box. I didn't really think anything of it, but the man added something to the end of his first statement. "People think my arms hurt because I'm so active, but in reality it's my bones..." Confused for a minute, I paused. He then added that he had cancer in his bones.
So after explaining that I was sorry to hear that he had bone cancer, this man laughed and said that it wasn't something that he could control, or that anything I could control, so there was no apology needed. Understanding how he felt looking from the outside was the only thing I could really say... Because it is true. I may not know what kind of pain he deals with every day, but I can tell him from my personal experiences what it is like to view what he is dealing with on the outside. I am able to give him a perspective that he is unable to see himself. Anyone who knows me knows what I am talking about.
This poor man told me that he felt lucky to have friends that still cared. He told me that throughout his life, he was always doing sports and was outside, and he didn't have time for his friends. Soon, he was diagnosed with bone cancer. All those sports he loved to play soon became a favorite past time, and he didn't really have anything to do during the day. That is why he was in there to buy a mount. He recently ordered high definition cable to enjoy himself indoors. He said that his friends were nice enough to grace him with their company, but that he wished he would have changed one thing looking back on them. He said that he wished he could have kept in contact with all of his friends from back when he was a young adult, and that he had just looked at things a little bit more, instead of doing them. In my opinion, it sounded like he was almost telling me that he felt he had missed out on some opportunities in his life because he was so caught up in doing what he loved, that he never even got to look at them, he was always doing them.
He said he lost a lot of his contacts, partially because they moved, partially because he moved, and partially because times changed, and people changed. I helped this gentleman out to his car, shook his hand, and he wished me a happy and fulfilling future. He even went as far as adding that I was a good kid, and that my father would have been proud of me. I wished him a good day, and that whatever his new goals in life may be, he would be able to achieve what he could with what he was given.
Life is short. Expect the unexpected. After hearing all about his life, I was reacquainted with a familiar sensation. It wasn't one of anger, happiness, or confusion. It was one of realization. It all came together, again.
The reason I'm writing this is because everyone needs a breather once in a while. If you did not, you would not be a happy person, and by the end of your life what could you have said about what you've accomplished. Yeah, I've made a million dollars! So? You're old and gray. What could you enjoy with your "one million dollars" at your age, and what did you experience along the way? Today gave me a wake up call that I most certainly won't forget. Take a second to enjoy the finer things in life. Enjoy what makes us human. Enjoy what you have, and be thankful for it. I hate kids that make it seem like they have nothing, when they really have something. I don't really understand how someone could just not appreciate what they truly have, and they are blessed with it. I probably was that kid at one point, and at times I'm sure I am, but not today. A change in pace, a change in direction... A change. It all started with a change. Change your perspective. Try something new, experience things that are away from your comfort zone. Experience... Life. You never know what you will find, who you will meet, or what you will see. You might have a change of plans, change of heart, or a change of pace. Whatever you do though, make sure you enjoy yourself along the way, because sooner than never, you'll end up not enjoying yourself at all.

Spunkyfresh
My first reference I would like to shout out is definitely my team, Spunkyfresh. We are, by definition:
Spun-ky-fresh: (1)n., name given to those of humble character, refreshing taste, outstanding style, while maintaining poise that on par with that of the spunkyfresh OG.; (2)n., organization of automobile enthusiasts who maintain clean and simple rides with pride.; (3)adj., spun-ky-fresh-ERR: those involved in, herewith affiliated, or pending certification with aforementioned organization entitled "spunkyfresh."
As a team, we are just starting, but already we've begun to shift the gears of our crew's meaning and members. Spunkyfresh is doing big things, and hopefully by next April or May we will be with the best of the best. Keep a lookout for news or pictures on our members.
Oh and for kicks, here is Keith's car in action, winning Ride of The Month on the online forum 6thGenAccord.
http://www.6thgenaccord.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16308
He was competing in the, "Best Slammed Accord," Ride of The Month competition, and placed first amongst his peers. So CONGRATULATIONS Keith for the big win against your competitors.
You may follow the link provided to read the full story on Keith and his 2000 Honda Accord. Hopefully we will all have our claims to fame like Keith did.
